Vince Cable, the UK Cabinet Minister, Secretary of State for Business and President of the Board of Trade will address the Bioenergy Finance Summit in the City of London on the 19th September and discuss the UK Governments launch of the Green Investment Bank. The intensive one day forum will see over 17 expert financiers and project developers discuss the burgeoning investment opportunities in biomass power, biogas, energy to waste and cogen sectors.

The biomass and waste-to-energy power generation sector is expected to grow rapidly in the coming decade and is a sector that is maturing. According to the International Energy Agency, biomass feedstocks currently supply approximately 14% of global primary energy and could sustainably be produced in much higher quantities. In the UK alone, there is over 1660MW of installed bioenergy capacity, but there are nearly 3500MW of bioenergy capacity in various stages of planning. Getting this additional capacity built will be critical for the UK to meet its renewable energy targets and provide a valuable source of baseload power.
